Log margin-to-thickness ratio improves disease-specific survival prediction in oral cancer: A single cancer center database
Clinical Otolaryngology Oct 12, 2018
Huang CY, et al. - Researchers evaluated if dynamic margin criteria margin-to-thickness (MTR) ratio is a better predictor vs the resection margin or tumor thickness alone in the survival outcome of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). They included OSCC patients treated in Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital Cancer Center between January 2006 and December 2013. In the disease-specific survival of OSCC, a log MTR < 33% may predict a less favorable outcome. In terms of discriminative analysis, both resection margin and tumor thickness alone were outperformed by log MTR. Findings might have implications in presurgical planning for high-risk patients and the decision-making process for adjuvant treatment.
