Locally advanced epithelial sinonasal tumors: The impact of multimodal approach

The Laryngoscope Aug 09, 2019

Orlandi E, et al. - Researchers sought to assess prognostic factors associated with outcomes of locally advanced epithelial sinonasal cancers via reviewing 69 consecutive patients with American Joint Committee Cancer stage III to IV epithelial sinonasal cancers treated with a multimodal approach [induction chemotherapy (IC), surgery, radiotherapy] between 1996 and 2015. Locally advanced epithelial sinonasal cancers were noted to have a dismal prognosis globally, with neuroendocrine lesions having worse outcomes. In the recurrent setting, longer overall survival (OS) was observed in correlation with the feasibility of salvage surgery and clinical benefit from palliative chemotherapy. Improved OS seems achievable with a multimodal treatment strategy with IC vs not employing such a therapeutic tool.
