Local inflammatory reaction to benign, premalignant and malignant glottic lesions: A matched case-control study
Clinical Otolaryngology May 04, 2019
Lahav Y, et al. - In this observational, matched case-control study, researchers analyzed the inflammatory infiltrates associated with the various stages of laryngeal carcinogenesis. Between 2008 and 2015, 45 patients who had removal of glottic lesions were included. Data reported that the predominant cell type was CD8+, followed by CD68+ and CD4+. According to findings, laryngeal carcinoma shows a unique pattern of inflammatory infiltrates, with significant changes in cell counts and distribution. In the transition from laryngeal premalignant lesion to malignancy, leukocyte infiltrates increased significantly, while no significant differences between benign and premalignant lesions were observed.
