Local infiltration anesthesia vs epidural analgesia for postoperative pain control in total knee arthroplasty: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research | Jun 01, 2018
Li C, et al. - In systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) experts assessed the effectiveness and safety of local infiltration anaesthesia (LIA) vs epidural analgesia (EPA) for postoperative pain control in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Equivalent efficacy of LIA as EPA for pain control after TKA was seen. An increase of the range of motion and a reduction of the occurrence of nausea and length of hospital stay was demonstrated by LIA. In view of the limited number of the included studies to identify the long-term effects of LIA for pain control after TKA, more high-quality RCTs are still required.
