Local failure after stereotactic body radiation therapy or wedge resection for colorectal pulmonary metastases
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery May 18, 2019
Nelson DB, et al. - Researchers retrospectively reviewed records of patients treated for pulmonary colorectal metastases with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) or wedge resection for the risk of local recurrence. They identified that for definitive treatment of 826 pulmonary nodules, 762 wedge resections and 64 courses of SBRT were undertaken in 381 patients. SBRT resulted in a higher risk of local recurrence than wedge resection. They recommend reserving SBRT for patients with comorbidities precluding surgical resection.
