Local control of breast conservation therapy vs mastectomy in multifocal or multicentric breast cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Breast Care May 10, 2019
Fang M, et al. - Researchers investigated the feasibility of breast conservation therapy (BCT) for female patients with multifocal or multicentric (MF/MC) breast cancer. They also compared treatment outcomes with those who underwent BCT for unifocal breast cancer and those who had mastectomy for MF/MC breast cancer. They analyzed 10 studies with 19,272 patients, identified from online databases, including PubMed and Embase. A higher local relapse (LR) was reported in relation to BCT for patients with MF/MC breast cancer vs that of BCT in patients with unifocal breast cancer. However, in patients with MF/MC breast cancer, the incidence of LR did not differ significantly between the BCT group and the mastectomy group.
