Local anesthesia thoracoscopy with vs without midazolam: A randomized controlled trial
Respiration Dec 04, 2020
Koulelidis A, Anevlavis S, Nikitidis N, et al. - Whether use of midazolam associated with lidocaine vs lidocaine alone in patients with local anesthetic thoracoscopy (LAT) adds to respiratory side effects, was determined in this study. This study involved 80 patients. Experts randomized these patients to a 1:1 study to 2 groups: local anesthesia by lidocaine (n = 40) vs lidocaine and midazolam (n = 40). The mean lowest oxygen saturation was the primary endpoint. Findings demonstrated that when midazolam was administered with lidocaine for LAT, it did not add to respiratory side effects, while actual improvement in patients’ quality of life was evident in this group. Thus, researchers altered their strategy, in their department, in favor of the association of lidocaine and midazolam.
