Liverpool Lung Project lung cancer risk stratification model: Calibration and prospective validation
Thorax Oct 23, 2020
Field JK, Vulkan D, Davies MPA, et al. - It has been shown that early detection of lung cancer saves lives, therefore, researchers intended to generate version 3 of the Liverpool Lung Project risk score (LLPv3), via calibration to national figures for 2017. They used questionnaire data from 75,958 patients who were observed for lung cancer over 5 years to validate both version 2 of the Liverpool Lung Project risk score (LLPv2) and LLPv3. Over 5 years, a total of 599 lung cancers were diagnosed. Findings showed LLPv2 and LLPv3had the same discriminatory power, but an improved absolute lung cancer risk prediction was enabled by LLPv3. LLPv2 tended to overestimate absolute risk in the population. For this reason, LLPv3 should be considered for use in further UK implementation studies.
