Liquid crystal spatial light modulators for simulating zonal multifocal lenses

Optometry and Vision Science Sep 07, 2017

Li Y, et al. – In this study, researchers depict a system capable of investigating the optical attributes of multi zone bifocal and multifocal optics by sub–aperture stitching utilizing liquid crystal technologies. The system successfully simulated bifocal and multifocal simultaneous lenses allowing for future assessment of both objective and subjective assessment of complex optical designs. However, low efficiency and diffraction phenomena of the spatial light modulator (SLM) limit the utility of this technology for simulating multi zone and multifocal optics.
