Liposomal bupivacaine single‐injection compared with continuous local anesthetic nerve blocks for painful surgeries: A meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials and trial sequential analysis
Pain Practice Jul 19, 2020
Liu L, Yang Z, Lu K, et al. - Via performing a meta‐analysis including six randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of 625 patients, researchers investigated if the analgesic effect produced by liposomal bupivacaine (LB) single‐injection is similar to that of continuous local anesthetic nerve blocks (CNBs) after painful surgeries. Inclusion was performed of RCTs with a modified Jadad score ≥ 4 comparing LB single‐injection with CNBs in patients after painful surgeries. In 5 RCTs, standard concomitant treatment with multimodal analgesia was described in both groups. Findings suggest similar outcomes in terms of pain relief and safety of LB single‐injection and CNBs in patients after painful surgeries, when concomitant with multimodal analgesia.
