Liposomal bupivacaine efficacy for post-operative pain following posterior vaginal surgery: A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Feb 27, 2018
Jones C, et al. - Researchers performed this study evaluating the cumulative post-operative vaginal pain on days 1 and 3 after posterior vaginal wall surgery comparing study medication (extended-release liposomal bupivicaine) to placebo (saline). They also determined vaginal pain on post-operative day 7 and total morphine-equivalent narcotic usage on days 1, 3, and 7. No statistically significant decrease in post-operative pain or decrease narcotic medication usage when compared to saline was evident on injecting extended-release liposomal bupivacaine into the lateral posterior vaginal wall and perineal body for posterior vaginal wall surgeries.
