Lipids, apolipoproteins, and the risk of Parkinson disease: A prospective cohort study and a Mendelian randomization analysis
Circulation Research Aug 09, 2019
Fang F, Zhan Y, Hammar N, et al. - Researchers evaluated future risk of Parkinson disease (PD) in relation to lipids and apolipoproteins in the Apolipoprotein-related MOrtality RISk Study. Participants were approximately 600,000 individuals who were enrolled during 1985-1996 in Stockholm, Sweden and were observed until the end of 2011. To identify incident cases of PD, they used the Swedish Patient Register. In this study, a lower future risk of PD was reported in relation to higher levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides. Findings of the Mendelian randomization analysis further indicated a causal inverse link of total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglycerides with PD risk. This study offers novel findings for apolipoprotein B in relation to PD risk.
