Lipid profiles in adolescents with and without asthma: Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data
Lipids in Health and Disease Jul 23, 2018
Ko SH, et al. - This cross-sectional study analyzed the 2010–2012 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data to investigate the association between asthma and lipid profiles in adolescents. Participants in the study were 2,841 subjects aged 11–18 years with fasting blood sample data. Researchers reported that asthma prevalence was greater in adolescents with a high total cholesterol (TC) level and triglyceride (TG)/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio. Results of this study suggested that elevated TG/HDL-C ratio could be utilized as a valuable additional lipid measure to assess interactions between dyslipidemia and asthma in addition to the standard lipid profile.
