Linkage between patients’ characteristics and prescribed systemic treatments for Psoriasis: A semantic connectivity map analysis of the Swiss SDNTT registry
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Oct 03, 2019
Cazzaniga S, Anzengruber F, Augustin M, et al. - In a large group of patients observed in real-life clinical practice, researchers studied the primary connections between characteristics of patients and systemic treatments prescribed for psoriasis. This was a retrospective analysis of baseline data collected from March 2011 to December 2017 in Switzerland in the Swiss Dermatology Network for Targeted Therapies Registry. Participants in the study were 549 patients (mean age 46.7±14.7 years). Conventional therapies such as retinoids and methotrexate were linked to no prior systemic therapies for psoriasis, a moderate quality of life (QoL) at therapy onset and older age (≥ 60 years). Fumaric acid derivatives were linked to mild psoriasis (PASI < 10) and long disease duration (≥ 20 years), whereas cyclosporine and PUVA/UVB treatments were associated with a more severe condition, including impaired QoL, hospitalisation and inability to work. The authors discovered multifaceted relationships between characteristics of patients, comorbidities, disease severity and systemic treatments prescribed for psoriasis. Specifically, the semantic map shows that comorbidities play a key position in decision-making on the use of systemic psoriasis treatments.
