Link between insomnia and perinatal depressive symptoms: A meta-analysis
Journal of Sleep Research Apr 19, 2019
Emamian F, et al. - Considering the possible connection between insomnia and perinatal depressive symptoms, researchers wanted to find a quantitative answer by searching for Medline, EMBASE, and reference tracking that included nine relevant studies (total 1,922 women sample). With meta-regression, the effect size estimate was significantly mediated by no moderating factor (age, marriage rate, breastfeeding rate, pregnancy history or year of publication). The scale of the depression assessment used, but not other categorical variables, explained the heterogeneity magnitude. Investigators found insomnia associated with depressive symptoms during the perinatal period, which warrants insomnia and depression screening for pregnant mothers.
