Limb- and person-level risk factors for lower-limb amputation in the prospective Seattle Diabetic Foot Study

Boyko EJ, et al. - An exploration was conducted of the risk of nontraumatic lower-limb amputations associated with the same limb- and person-level factors among patients without foot ulcer. The only limb-specific risk factors for amputation were revealed to be the arterial disease and neuropathy. However, these and several person-level factors could prove to be amenable for the prevention or therapeutic interventions in order to potentially reduce diabetic amputation risk.
