Likelihood of sustaining an injury in the setting of multiple falls
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Oct 20, 2018
Gill TM, et al. – Researchers evaluated the relationship between number of falls and risk of injury after a specific fall by conducting this prospective cohort study at the setting of Greater New Haven, CT. Using a fall calendar and follow-up telephone interviews, they ascertained falls and fall-related injuries among a probability sample of 1,103 community-living persons aged 72 and older for 3 years. There was no evident difference in risk of injury from a specific fall as the number of falls increased, suggesting that falls, in the setting of multiple falls, appear to operate independently in terms of conferring risk of injury.
