Ligamentum teres reconstruction may lead to improvement in outcomes following a secondary hip arthroscopy for symptomatic microinstability: A systematic review
Arthroscopy Feb 01, 2021
Shapira J, Yelton MJ, Rosinsky PJ, et al. - Researchers aimed at describing the indications, surgical technique, outcomes, and complications for patients undergoing arthroscopic reconstruction of the ligamentum teres (LT). Inclusion of the articles was performed if they had postoperative patients reported outcomes (PROs) for arthroscopic LT reconstruction. The cases, in majority, were of revision arthroscopies. Based on the outcomes, it can be concluded that consideration could be given to reconstruction of the ligamentum teres in surgical management for patients with symptomatic hip instability due to soft tissue causes. Evidence gained is in support of LT reconstruction mainly for patients having refractory instability following previous hip preservation procedures. Discussion should be made concerning patients’ expectations as well as the relatively high reoperation rate (ie 33%) prior to the procedure.
