Lifestyle multidomain intervention, omega-3 supplementation, or both for reducing the risk of developing clinically relevant depressive symptoms in older adults with memory complaints?: Secondary analysis from the MAPT trial
Experimental Gerontology Mar 04, 2019
Maltais M, et al. - In this secondary analysis of the 3-year Multidomain Alzheimer Preventive Trial (MAPT), researchers assessed the change of clinically meaningful depressive symptoms in older adults in relation to a lifestyle multidomain intervention (MI), omega-3 supplementation (O3; 1,000 mg daily), or a combination of both. This study included 1,679 people aged ≥ 70 years with memory complaints who were randomized to either MI, O3, MI plus O3, or placebo. Nutritional and physical activity counselling, as well as cognitive training, comprised MI. For each outcome, discrete-time cox regressions were performed. In this study population of older adults with memory complaints, a lifestyle MI was not associated with the onset of clinically depressive symptoms.
