Lifestyle factors and the course of depression in older adults: A NESDO study

Bruin MC, et al. - Researchers examined if lifestyle indicators including physical exercise, sleep duration, alcohol use, body mass index, smoking status, and a composite lifestyle index exhibited a relation with the depression course in older adults. it was reported that 61.1% had chronic depression, 20.1% had intermittent depression and 18.7% remitted depression. The investigated lifestyle indicators, composite lifestyle index correlated with depression course, after adjustment for covariates. Therefore, it was deduced that lifestyle factors did not predict the course of depression at 2 year follow-up in older adults.
