Life's Simple 7 and the risk of stroke in Finnish men: A prospective cohort study
Preventive Medicine Oct 30, 2021
Isiozor NM, Kunutsor SK, Voutilainen A, et al. - In a middle-aged male Finnish population, findings revealed strong, inverse, and linear association of Life's Simple7 (LS7) score with the risk of total and ischemic strokes.
Men (42–60 years) without pre-existing history of stroke at baseline (1984–1989) were included (Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease cohort).
For 2,520 males, LS7 was computed from American Heart Association's cardiovascular health metrics.
Continuous decrease in the risk of both stroke outcomes (total and ischemic stroke) was evident with increasing LS7 scores across the range 2–6.
There was 48% (hazard ratio HR: 0.52) lower risk of total stroke in men with high (5–7) LS7 vs those with low (0–2) LS7.
A similar association was noted for the risk of ischemic stroke, with 50% (HR: 0.50) lower risk in males with high LS7 vs those with low LS7.
