Life course socioeconomic status, allostatic load, and kidney health in black Americans
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Feb 28, 2020
Lunyera J, Stanifer JW, Davenport CA, et al. - Since there is a lack of clarity regarding the degree and mechanisms whereby life course socioeconomic status influences kidney health, so, researchers undertook this analysis in black Americans in the Jackson Heart Study, to examine the link between cumulative lifetime socioeconomic status and CKD in this population. Following multivariable adjustment, lower cumulative lifetime socioeconomic status was found to be related to a greater prevalence of CKD both directly and through a higher allostatic load. A median follow-up of 8 years was performed. Findings revealed a substantial link of lower cumulative lifetime socioeconomic status with CKD prevalence, as well as its modest link with CKD incidence and eGFR decline via baseline allostatic load.
