LGALS3 promotes treatment resistance in glioblastoma and is associated with tumor risk and prognosis
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Mar 28, 2019
Wang H, et al. - Researchers assessed how LGALS3 (which promotes tumor progression in several cancers) influences glioblastoma. Researchers observed effective protection of LGALS3 from ionizing irradiation or temozolomide-induced cell death in T98G and U251 cells. In addition, an independent risk factor for survival in patients with glioblastoma was reported to be possible with high expression of LGALS3. They observed an association of two SNP sites across the LGALS3 gene (rs4644 and rs4652) with increased risk for glioblastoma. They also found enhanced glioblastoma resistance to radio-chemotherapy (but not cell proliferation) due to the C allele of rs4652 and the A allele of rs4644.
