Levels of systolic and diastolic blood pressure and their relation to incident metabolic syndrome
Cardiology Jul 18, 2019
Jung JY, et al. - Researchers focused on the predictive ability of blood pressure (BP) for incident metabolic syndrome (MetS) among Koreans (n=5,809) without baseline MetS. The participants were categorized according to baseline systolic (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) and incident MetS was identified via monitoring for 10 years. To assess the HR and 95% CI for MetS by SBP and DBP, they used a Cox proportional hazards model. Including normotensive subjects, a subgroup analysis was carried out following a new guideline of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. According to the findings, the risk of incident MetS increased proportionally to baseline SBP and DBP. Even normotensive subjects showed this identically.
