Less symptomatic, but equally impaired: Clinical impairment in restricting vs binge-eating/purging subtype of anorexia nervosa
Eating Behaviours Jan 17, 2018
Reas DL, et al. - The subtype variations in eating disorder-specific impairment were comprehensively examined by the experts in a treatment-seeking sample of subjects with anorexia nervosa (AN). Higher levels of core attitudinal and behavioral eating disorder (ED) pathology were illustrated by those with AN-binge-eating/purging type (AN-B/P) than AN-restricting type (AN-R). Nevertheless, there were no marked variations in ED-specific impairment between AN subtypes. No connection was revealed between eating disorder-related impairment in AN with the severity of underweight or purging behaviors. However, it was uniquely and positively related to the weight/shape concerns and binge eating frequency.
