Leptin as an obesity marker in rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatology International Jun 15, 2018
de Resende Guimarães MFB, et al. - Authors conducted a cross-sectional study to identify a marker of excess adiposity in women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using different methods for fat mass evaluation. The only marker that correlated with body fat percentage according to the three methods was the median serum leptin concentration. The cut-off point of 10.3 ng/mL of leptin was seen to be an obesity marker, with a sensitivity of 96.43% and a specificity of 23.81%. Findings suggested a positive correlation of serum leptin with fat mass and it was noted to be potentially useful in excess fat mass determination in clinical practice.
