Lens dose reduction by patient posture modification during neck CT
American Journal of Roentgenology Mar 23, 2018
Mosher EG, et al. - The goal herein was to gauge the effect of modification of the neck CT scanning procedure to include a reduction in the scanning range, a reduction in the tube potential (kilovoltage), and a change in neck positioning using a head tilt with the aid of a computer simulation in order to reduce the risk of cataract. Such modifications led to a reduction in the dose to the lens by 89%. Findings illustrated that the combination of head tilt and scanning range reduction served as an easy and effective method which substantially reduced the radiation dose to the lens and other radiosensitive head and neck organs.
