Lateral extracavitary approach versus posterior extensive circumferential decompression in the treatment of complicated thoracic and lumbar tuberculous spondylitis
Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques Oct 27, 2017
Omran K, et al. - Researchers performed a retrospective analysis of patients operated for complicated spinal tuberculosis either using posterior extensive circumferential decompression (PECD) or the lateral extracavitary (LEC) technique. Clinical, radiologic, laboratory, and functional outcomes were also compared. Although both procedures afforded good results for maintained deformity correction, bony fusion, spinal cord decompression, and neurological improvement, the possible superiority of PECD over LEC was suggested for treating complicated tuberculous spondylitis.
