Lassa fever in pregnancy with a positive maternal and fetal outcome: A case report

Agboeze J, Nwali MI, Nwakpakpa E, et al. - A 25-year-old multigravida farmer with a confirmation of Lassa fever who was, in the beginning, thought to have malaria (because of clinical peculiarities of fever and abdominal pain) in pregnancy at 29 weeks gestation was considered in order to study the signs and symptoms of Lassa fever in pregnancy with a positive maternal and fetal outcome. Mothers with Lassa fever recovered rapidly following the evacuation of the uterus through spontaneous abortion or normal delivery. She was clinically stable after delivery. Laboratory investigations were typically normal. During her management, transmission-based precautions were seen. None of the six close contacts acquired symptoms subsequent to been followed up for 21 days. Thus, this report adds to the body of literature that during pregnancy with good maternal and fetal outcomes, people can withstand Lassa fever.
