Large-for-gestational age and stillbirth: Is there a role for antenatal testing?
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology Aug 10, 2019
Carter EB, et al. - Researchers examined how large-for-gestational-age (LGA) pregnancy is associated with stillbirth in order to determine if antenatal testing with non-stress test or biophysical profile may benefit the LGA fetus. In this retrospective cohort study, 52,749 pregnancies ongoing at 24 weeks were included; of these, 46,205 (87.6%) were appropriate-for-gestational age and 6,544 (12.4%) were LGA at delivery. The analysis revealed significantly increased risk for stillbirth at or beyond 36 weeks for pregnancies complicated by LGA; this was observed irrespective of maternal diabetes status. Antenatal testing may benefit in these pregnancies.
