Large B-cell lymphoma of the uvea: Histopathologic variants and clinicopathologic correlation
Survey of Ophthalmology Jan 29, 2020
Valenzuela J, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to identify histopathologic variants and clinicopathologic association of large B-cell lymphoma of the uvea. Twenty-eight patients with large B-cell lymphoma of the uvea were reported. Histopathologically, it has been possible to identify 3 distinct subgroups of large B-cell lymphoma: 15 were characterized as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, 11 as intravascular large B-cell lymphoma, and 2 as plasmablastic lymphoma. All cases had a poor prognosis, with a median 14-month survival. Most cases displayed secondary uveal involvement with widespread systemic lymphoma at ophthalmic presentation. The presenting characteristics are nonspecific, frequently resulting in enucleation. Findings suggested an association of the aggressive nature and widespread involvement at ophthalmic presentation with short survival in all three variants.
