Laparoscopic vs open surgery for the management of postcholecystectomy benign biliary strictures
Surgical Endoscopy Feb 19, 2021
Javed A, Shashikiran BD, Aravinda PS, et al. - Researchers aimed at delineating their experience of laparoscopic bilio-enteric anastomosis [Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy (LRYHJ)/laparoscopic hepaticoduodenostomy (LHD)] in the management of postcholecystectomy benign biliary strictures (BBS). In addition, the outcomes were compared with the patients operated by the open approach. Prospective data of postcholecystectomy BBS patients treated by laparoscopic bilio-enteric anastomosis were retrospectively analyzed. Surgery for post-cholecystectomy BBS was performed on 63 patients between January 2016 and February 2019. Comparison was performed between 29 patients who underwent laparoscopic bilio-enteric anastomosis (LRYHJ-13, LHD-16) and 34 patients who underwent an open repair. Per outcomes, it is feasible and safe to perform laparoscopic surgery for postcholecystectomy BBS with an LRYHJ or LHD and it compares favourably with the open approach.
