Laparoscopic vs open resection for colorectal liver metastases: The OSLO-COMET randomized controlled trial

Fretland AA, et al. - The first randomized controlled trial was designed to compare laparoscopic and open liver resection. Observations revealed that laparoscopic surgery was associated with significantly less postoperative complications compared to open surgery in patients undergoing parenchyma-sparing liver resection for colorectal metastases. Compared to open resection, laparoscopic resection was cost-effective with a 67% probability. Both groups were similar in terms of rate of free resection margins. The continued implementation of laparoscopic liver resection was supported here.
