Annals of Surgery Jan 26, 2018
Fretland AA, et al. - Researchers undertook the first randomized controlled trial comparing laparoscopic and open liver resection for colorectal liver metastases. Compared to open surgery, laparoscopic surgery was associated with significantly less postoperative complications in patients undergoing parenchyma-sparing liver resection for colorectal metastases. Laparoscopic resection was cost-effective with a 67% probability. Both groups were same in the rate of free resection margins. Continued implementation of laparoscopic liver resection was supported by the results.
