Laparoscopic vs open management of adult intussusception
Surgical Endoscopy Oct 03, 2020
Siow SL, Goo ZQ, Mahendran HA, et al. - Researchers here compared the short-term clinical outcomes of laparoscopic surgery vs open surgery in adult patients with intussusception via retrospectively reviewing data of all adult patients with intussusception admitted to their hospital. Seventeen open and 20 laparoscopic-assisted resections were undertaken. Outcomes revealed correlation of laparoscopic approach with earlier oral intake and a lower comprehensive complication index. They suggest this technique to be a safe and feasible technique conferring the benefits of minimally invasive surgery and support considering it as a preferred surgical option when the surgical expertise is available.
