Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy improves body composition and alleviates insulin resistance in obesity related acanthosis nigricans

Zhang Y, et al. - Researchers explored the impact of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) on the body composition and insulin resistance, in Chinese obese patients with acanthosis nigricans. A positive impact was yielded due to LSG in the study cohort. Loss of android fat mass (FM) and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) could cause an alleviation of insulin resistance in AN patients. It was observed that android fat distribution possibly served as a potential indicator of postoperative metabolic benefits for obese patients with AN.
