Laparoscopic right hepatectomy using the caudal approach is superior to open right hepatectomy with anterior approach and liver hanging maneuver: A comparison of short-term outcomes
Surgical Endoscopy May 10, 2019
Yoh T, et al. - Using propensity score matching, researchers compared 72 patients who underwent laparoscopic right hepatectomy (LRH) using the caudal approach with 72 patients who underwent open right hepatectomy (ORH) with anterior approach and liver hanging maneuver regarding the short-term outcomes. Outcomes revealed improved short-term outcomes in correlation with LRH using the caudal approach compared to state-of-the-art ORH in patients qualifying for both approaches. They noted a conversion rate of 18.1% in the LRH group. The LRH group had significantly lower perioperative blood loss, transfusion rates, complication rates as well as significantly shorter hospital stay when compared to ORH group. However, significantly longer operation time was observed in the LRH group.
