Laparoscopic procedure compared with open radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy in early cervical cancer: A retrospective study
OncoTargets and Therapy Sep 25, 2018
Guo J, et al. - Researchers performed this retrospective study including more than 400 patients having a laparoscopic procedure to compare clinical outcomes in laparoscopic and open radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy (LRH) in early cervical cancer without the selection bias. They found that the LRH group had significantly lower estimated blood loss and transfusion requirements, as well as a significantly shorter postoperative hospital stay. Between the LRH and open radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy (ORH) groups, there was a significant difference in the number of pelvic lymph nodes retrieved, but no differences in operating time, perioperative complications, progression-free survival, and overall survival. For early-stage cervical cancer, LRH can be considered a safe and effective alternative to conventional open surgery.
