Laparoscopic partial hepatectomy is cost-effective when performed in high volume centers: A five state analysis
American Journal of Surgery Jan 15, 2021
Eguia E, Sweigert PJ, Li RD, et al. - Researchers aimed at comparing the inpatient costs of laparoscopic (LHR) and open hepatic resection (OHR). In this retrospective cohort study performed using the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project State Inpatient Databases, they included 10,239 patients undergoing hepatic resection.Of these patients, 865 (8%) underwent LHR and 9,374 (92%) underwent OHR. Findings revealed lower risk of postoperative complication among patients undergoing laparoscopic partial hepatectomy than those undergoing OHR. As a consequence of this, lower aggregate costs were incurred in very high-volume centers.
