Laparoscopic negative appendectomy during pregnancy is associated with adverse neonatal outcome
Surgical Endoscopy Feb 05, 2021
Rottenstreich M, Tankel J, Ayalon NV, et al. - Between 2004 and 2019, a single center retrospective study was conducted to assess the maternal and neonatal implications of a negative appendectomy (NA) during pregnancy. Pregnant women who had laparoscopic appendectomy for suspected appendicitis were identified from which those who had a pathologically normal appendix were chosen. A NA was performed on 33 (14.7%) of the 225 pregnant women who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy. Doing a NA during pregnancy is a predictor of antenatal follow-up and perioperative counseling.
