Penna M, et al. - A comparison of clinical outcomes after laparoscopic lavage (LL) or colonic resection (CR) for purulent diverticulitis was performed. Approximately 3 times greater risk of persistent peritonitis, intraabdominal abscesses and the need for emergency surgery was observed in association with the preservation of diseased bowel with LL compared with CR.
