Lactate, lactate clearance and outcome after cardiac arrest: A post-hoc analysis of the TTM-Trial
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Jun 25, 2018
During J, et al. - In this post-hoc analysis of the Target Temperature Management trial, researchers investigated the association between lactate levels and outcomes (30-day mortality) in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Participants were assessed for admission lactate, 12-hour lactate, and the clearance of lactate within 12 hours after admission. These patents who were unconscious after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest were randomized to a temperature intervention of 33°C or 36°C. Findings demonstrated an independent association of admission lactate and 12-hour lactate values with 30-day mortality after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, while no such association was found for 12-hour lactate clearance. However, a limited clinical value of lactate as the sole predictor of outcome after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest was observed.
