Lacosamide: A study of exposures reported to US poison centers over a 9-year period
Journal of Medical Toxicology Jul 12, 2019
Teijido J, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the characteristics and outcomes of patients exposed to lacosamide (Vimpat). For this retrospective observational study, the National Poison Data System (NPDS) yielded 1124 patients with lacosamide exposures, ranging from ages 2 months to 99 years. Of these, 55.3% were female, 86.8% displayed minimal or no toxic effects. Death or disability was infrequent in correlation to lacosamide exposures; however, intensive care was required in a considerable proportion of the study population. Commonly presented symptoms comprised neurologic, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular symptoms. Healthcare evaluation is recommended in exposed patients with symptoms.
