Journal of Prosthodontics Sep 28, 2017
Peric M, et al. - The authors evaluated the denture sonication method to increase the possibility of diagnosing patients with Candida-associated denture stomatitis (DS). In addition, they detected and identified the mixed Candida spp., and determined the Candida colony forming units (CFU) and its possible relationship with DS severity, based on Newton's classification. Collected evidence represented that the denture sonication method was easy, accurate, and sensitive, and increased the possibility of diagnosing patients with Candida-associated DS. Also, when cultivation on Candida CHROMagar was performed, yeast quantification, mixed Candida spp., and non-albicans Candida were detectable. Using conventional methods like swab or oral rinse, it was not possible.
