Knowledge, attitude and psychological status of patients living with hepatitis C in five provinces in China: A cross-sectional survey
BMJ Open Apr 15, 2021
Zhao TS, Jin C, Wang Y, et al. - In this investigation involving 409 patients (215 men and 194 women, with an average age of 59 years), researchers examined the knowledge, attitudes and psychological status of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-positive patients through a cross-sectional survey to provide scientific strategies for improving their treatment compliance and quality of life. The most common route of HCV transmission (42.7%) was blood transfusion, followed by surgery (15.9%) and blood donation/sale (8.7%). HCV-positive patients commonly had a negative attitude toward other HCV-positive patients and a poor understanding of HCV. HCV-positive patients were generally categorized as potentially having symptoms of depression, especially patients with negative attitudes. It is critical to develop effective health education strategies to improve HCV-positive patients' knowledge, attitudes, and mental health, as well as to improve treatment adherence.
