Knowledge about vaccines and vaccination in older people: Results of a national survey by the Italian Society for Gerontology & Geriatrics
Vaccine Dec 16, 2019
Ecarnot F, et al. - Researchers compared vaccine knowledge levels between qualified specialists and postgraduate residents. They administered a questionnaire that was sent to the directors of 51 geriatric internship programs and Italy. From the questionnaires, they assessed data on demographics, information sources, knowledge about influenza, and pneumococcal and herpes zoster vaccines and target groups. Questionnaires from 253 qualified specialists and 206 residents were assessed in total. The researchers found that while residents were more knowledgeable than specialists, the overall rates of correct answers were low. They concluded that targeted interventions may be beneficial, as they will ensure physicians relay accurate information to patients.
