Knockdown of NOLC1 inhibits PI3K-AKT pathway to improve the poor prognosis of esophageal carcinoma
Journal of Oncology May 13, 2021
Kong F, Shang Y, Diao X, et al. - Researchers investigated the link between nucleolar and coiled-body phosphoprotein 1 (NOLC1) and poor prognosis of esophageal carcinoma (ESCA), as well as its role and mechanism in the development of ESCA. Employing qRT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, or western blot, experts ascertained the NOLC1 expression in ESCA tissues and cell lines. In ESCA tissues and ESCA cell lines, there was NOLC1 overexpression relative to adjacent normal tissues and normal esophageal cell line HEEC. A marked link of NOLC1 overexpression with bigger tumor size, lymph node metastasis, and advanced TNM stage, was identified. Shorter overall survival was observed in patients with NOLC1 overexpression vs that of those with low NOLC1 expression. Findings indicate that NOLC1 not only may represent a marker for poor prognosis, but also can involve in the occurrence as well as development of ESCA through the PI3K/AKT pathway.
