Knee osteoarthritis and menopausal hormone therapy in postmenopausal women: A nationwide cross-sectional study
Menopause Jun 07, 2019
Jung JH, et al. - Given the increased incidence of osteoarthritis (OA) following menopause, which may be linked to hormonal changes in women, researchers investigated how knee OA prevalence is associated with menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) using large-scale national data. Via examining data from 4,766 postmenopausal women from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2009-2012), the investigators found that the odds ratio for OA was 0.70 among women who received MHT vs those who did not receive MHT. Overall, findings suggested a lower prevalence of knee OA among participants with MHT vs those without MHT.
