Ketamine for rapid sedation of agitated patients in the prehospital and Emergency Department settings: A systematic review and proportional meta-analysis
The Journal of Emergency Medicine Sep 12, 2018
Mankowitz SL, et al. - Researchers investigated the safety and efficacy of ketamine for sedation of prehospital and emergency department (ED) patients with undifferentiated agitation via a systematic review. They analyzed 1,176 results from 14 databases and assessed that ketamine is efficacious in providing rapid sedation for undifferentiated agitated patients and is correlated with higher intubation rates when used by ground emergency medical services paramedics, vs ED or air medical transport patients. They observed the common occurrence of other side effects, but these were usually self-limiting.
