Isthmusectomy in selected patients with well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma
Head & Neck Oct 12, 2019
Park H, et al. - In this investigation, researchers evaluated the results of patients with well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma (WDTC) limited to the isthmus managed with isthmusectomy alone. From an institutional database of 6,259 surgically treated patients with WDTC, 43 patients treated with isthmusectomy alone have been identified. Utilizing the Kaplan-Meier method, disease-specific survival and recurrence-free survival were calculated. For selected patients with low- and intermediate-risk WDTC confined to the isthmus, isthmusectomy alone is an appropriate procedure.
